Sometimes personal events occur on / near widely-observed holidays that dim the joy of celebration for an individual. In my household, several holidays have gained a pall due to death of loved ones. Traditions that were once anticipated with excitement have lost their luster or dissolved altogether. It took time to accept that the meaning within those days would forever be different; to grieve and learn to function with the loss.
If you're not feeling especially chipper - for any reason, really - it's alright to acknowledge that your viewpoint isn't what others might expect or desire. Those differences in experience are what make us and our stories interesting. Wherever you are in your journey, be it a high point or a low, all the darkness and sadness we endure doesn't negate the bright spots we embrace and keep burning in our memories. And no one can tell that particular story better than you.
